General Guidelines for Making Grants

1. Preference will be extended to those applicants that have received contributions from the foundation prior to December 1983.

2. Applications for contributions should be submitted prior to March 15th, to be considered at the spring board meeting. Applications for contributions should be submitted prior to September 15th, to be considered at the fall meeting of the board. A standard grant application form is not required, but is available and is of help to the trustees in evaluating proposals. Please be as brief as possible. Include a brief outline of the objectives of the project or program, who it will benefit and the qualifications of the organization administering the grant.

3. All applications should be signed by authorized persons or officials of the institution making the request. All applicants must have been determined by the IRS. to be tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the I.R.C and classified as "not a private foundation" as defined under section 509(a). Photocopies of the above determination letter must be submitted at the time of the first application to the foundation. Copies will not be required with each additional application.

4. Notice of grants approved will be given by written contract or letter

5. No awards to individuals will be considered or granted.

6. No awards for fundraisers will be considered or granted.

7. No awards for challenge or matching grants made by individuals or other private foundations will usually be considered or granted.

8. No awards for endowments will usually be considered or granted.

9. The general policy of the trustees is to wait until all applications up to and including March 15th have been received before taking action on any request. Notification of their decision should not be expected until sometime between April 30th and October 31st.

10. The trustees make no commitment or guarantees regarding future grants from the foundation. In view of the limited funds for distribution and the number of qualified applicants, the trustees suggest that proposals not be submitted in consecutive years.

11. Grants are made primarily for projects which benefit Alexandria, Louisiana and the surrounding metropolitan area. The trustees review and study each proposal submitted, but many worthwhile needs cannot be met because of the limited funds available for distribution each year. A limited amount of funding is available for New Orleans and the surrounding metropolitan area.

Applications for the Alexandria area should be submitted to:

Applications for the New Orleans area should be submitted there. link
